PULUKKA (2017)
Pulukka was done during a prototyping course in 2017 where we were able to choose a product of our interests. I was working with my classmate and friend Manne Martikainen and we both share the interest of brighter future for future generations to come. Since Rovaniemi and Lapland in general is becoming more and more touristy place we purposed this idea to reduce the plastic thrash on the streets and give people an alternative to the plastic sledges that were broken and lying around the city streets during winter time.
We did some research on the old Lapp’s sledges and got some inspiration from those and other wooden sledges as well. We also thought that even though wooden sledge would be more expensive to produce we thought that the hotels around the Rovaniemi City area might be interested in having sledges that would represent greener values, Finnish design with respect to the old woodcraft heritage even though the sledge was mostly CNC milled to bring down the costs of it.
We also wanted to make it a flatback so that could be easily stored during summer time and also for the shipping purposes if needed. We also wanted to keep the assembling easy so that even the kids would enjoy putting it together like a puzzle!
